Students were tasked with writing a Summary and Response essay on the connection between Freud and Gilman. I wrote this essay hoping to reach out to the other students and teachers of my class and enlighten them on how Freud looked upon his fellow doctors and how his correlations connected to Gilman. Since classmates and teachers would read my work, I knew who my audience was; they weren’t just random people. They were also very knowledgeable in the subject, so instead of laying information flat out, I tried to show the correlation between Gilman and Freud rather than mainly focusing on Freud. I wished to show my stance on the subject matter instead of informing, as me and my intended audience knows quite a bit about the topic already.
Aside from writing this essay due to my superior’s request, I genuinely do enjoy science, and reading about Freud and Gilman’s adventure with hysteria was one which I enjoyed. So when I received the task of writing this essay, I immensely enjoyed writing it, as the information just left my brain and emptied on the page rather effortlessly. Since this was a formal essay, I had to change how I wrote. I write more directly and tend to lay the information out, but for this essay, I tried to sound professional but open. I didn’t want to sound like a robot relaying information, but I doubt I had any luck with that. To add to structure, I thought my grammar was decently placed, as my peers said they had no problems reading my work.
I had a good time writing this essay; the only problem was the timing of everything. With classes being moved onto Thursday, a day which I couldn’t attend class and was generally away from technology. I couldn’t get extra peer review, couldn’t write as fulfilling as I wanted for my final draft, and 3: I had to be rushed for such tight deadlines. Other than that, I felt like I did alright on the essay, not my best, not certainly not my worst.
